Soon after Art Basel Miami Beach was over I had read an article on Art Forum which spoke to how many people did not make it over to the fair itself. In fact people were more interested in Art Basel the event which was a compilation of parties and platforms events for the luxury-goods market. It makes sense ever since Art Basel arrived to Miami that it had attracted high end brands in order to further validate the product and this was by design. I found all the events this year just as exciting as well, it was a wonderful spectacle.
This article is not going to lament the end of the international contemporary art institution. I am among most who feels that it will continue to thrive for the next ten years. With repeatable galleries such as Mary Boone, Gargosian, Hauser & Wirth, and local giant Snitzer along with collectors like Rubell and Scholl the validity of Basel with continue be in tact. I have seen how the last ten years has transformed Miami in general as a more art conscious city. With the rise of Wynwood and all the engaging art it is safe to say it would not be possible without the presence of Art Basel. Even this publication exist to as a record and forum to propel and move the conversation forward.
So by all means enjoy the pics and an take hold of all the opportunities to come if there are any to be had.
