Now more than ever the line between Fashion and Art has become obscure. Artists draw on fashion, photography, and designs as sources to integrate their work and manipulate it. While designers tap painters and sculptors for new patterns and forms. Contemporary art is defined by the expression of an idea or a concept, the medium is important, but only in terms of its manifestation. Among many of the artists who have crossed creative realms are the works of Gustav klimt, Wangechi Mutu, and Nick Cave.

On the other hand, good fashion can transcend the borders from utilitarian purposes into aesthetic. Examples of this are contemporary exhibitions of notable fashion designers as McQueen | Savage Beauty at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in May 2011 and The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art in June 2011.

The dividing line among Art and Fashion has become interchangeable as they can both be used to stimulates an individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas. Everyday boundaries get pushed, aesthetics evolve motivated by a logic of their own and individuals seem driven by the desired to express their innermost character.

This is the first year Art is About covers Miami Beach International Fashion Week. These were my picks of the show.
