The University of Miami presents POLYGON, A Master of Fine Arts exhibition by Lauren Shapiro. The artist explores the fusion of repetitive geometric shapes composed of ceramic materials to sculpt images recognizable as the organic mechanics or systems of anthropomorphic structures.

Shapiro’s sculptures are designed and assembled from building blocks fabricated in a unique process that originates with folded origami paper made into slip cast forms in molds.

Several of the pieces exhibited were begun during her residence in China as a Graduate Artist Fellow at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute at Jingdezhen, home of the world’s finest porcelain. Lauren Shapiro’s exhibition history includes the Lowe Museum of Art, The Bakehouse Art Complex, the sculpture garden of the Whitespace Collection, and Locust Projects at the New Art Dealer’s Alliance (NADA) during the annual Miami Art Fair week held every December.

POLYGON will be on view from May 10th – 29th, 2016 at the U of M Art Gallery located at the Wynwood Building, 2750 NW 3rd Avenue, Suite 4, Miami, FL 33127.
