Sterling Rook is an MFA candidate at Florida International University. His recent works continue investigation of Coconut Palm and Sabal palm materials, utilizing the organic materials with either conventional house paints or fabric. Rook uses these locally sourced materials to create rope and canvas in his explorations of the material and craft to understand indigeneity through hybridity in the art-making process. The works serves as an extension of his “onemantribe”, of which he is the progenitor and sole member. The tribe was founded in 1984 in North Miami Beach, FL.
